Buying a radiator: costs, installation and what to consider

Buying a new radiator goes beyond choosing a model and colour. Price, installation costs and the choice between electric and water-fed — these decisions significantly affect the total outlay.

What does a design radiator cost?

Radiator price depends on size, material and model:

• Compact entry model (e.g. Pure 300W): from €349
• Mid-range (e.g. Libra 1320mm): €544–€660
• Larger model (e.g. Nexo wide format): €700–€1,200
• Custom colour or made-to-measure: surcharge on top of the base price

Aluminium radiators are typically more expensive to buy than steel panel radiators, but cost less to run due to better conductivity at low temperatures.

What does installation cost?

Installation by a qualified plumber or heating engineer typically costs:

• Replacing a water radiator (existing connection): €80–€150
• New water connection (adding pipework): €200–€500 depending on pipe length and situation
• Connecting an electric element: €50–€120

Always get multiple quotes if pipework needs to be modified.

Can you install an electric radiator yourself?

An electric radiator can often be self-installed if there is already a socket nearby. A fixed connection point should be installed by a qualified electrician (€80–€150). Note: wet rooms such as bathrooms have specific electrical installation requirements (IP rating and switch zones).

Warranty and lifespan
